ECON, established in 2005, is a voluntary non-profit making, non-political, non-sectarian, non-governmental ecotourism based charitable organization based in Nepal currently working in Dhading and surrounding the lap of Manaslu (8156m) and Ganesh Himal (7406m) range neighbor of Annapurna Himalayan range and Langtang (Jugal) Himalayan ranges of Nepal. Dhading is one of the neighbor districts of Kathmandu the capital city of Nepal, Nuwakot and Makawanpur in the east, Gorkha in the west, Chitwan and Makawanpur in the south and Tibet and Rasuwa in the north.
ECON aims to advocate with practicing ecotourism following its three principles such as following community based tourism, advocating responsible travel and conserving Himalayan ecology through the identification, testing and exchanging Himalayan knowledge.
With a multi-disciplinary staffs over 5 professionals, ECON is a focal point for applied research, advocacy and practice of ecotourism, and demonstrating on a wide range of ecotourism and ecological issues that the local governments and people of Himalayan regions facing.
ECON provides for regional perspectives and exchange of information and experiences along with access of knowledge on Himalayan ecotourism subjects in Nepal. ECON is also moving towards carbon free tourism and had been taking small steps each time in achieving its goals of carbon free tourism in such an ecologically fragile rural Nepal destinations in central great Himalayas.
