Dog Chew

Nepalese dog chew, commonly known as Chhurpi or Himalayan hard cheese, has emerged as one of Nepal’s most successful animal-product exports. Traditionally produced as a hard cheese from yak and cow milk, Chhurpi has been adapted into a long-lasting, natural dog chew that has gained popularity among pet owners and buyers worldwide.

Chhurpi dog chews are valued for their high protein content, simple ingredients, and naturally hard texture, which provides dogs with a long-lasting chewing experience. They are available in a variety of sizes and shapes, making them suitable for dogs of different breeds and sizes. The product is particularly attractive to international buyers seeking natural and minimally processed pet treats.

The majority of Chhurpi production takes place in Nepal’s eastern hill districts, including Ilam, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, and Dhankuta, where traditional cheese-making practices are closely linked to local dairy farming. The product is then processed, packaged, and prepared for export to international markets.

The United States and Canada are among the major destinations for Nepalese dog chews, with demand also expanding into other international markets. Nepal exported dog chews worth approximately NPR 4.29 billion in the first half of 2026, highlighting the product’s growing importance within Nepal’s export sector and its increasing recognition in the global pet-care market.
